'The' Summer Dress

Updated: Feb 17, 2019

“Every summer has a story and there is always that one summer that changes you!”

Being an avid traveler, I love comfort clothing but at the same time I want to remain true to my style personality when choosing my outfits.

When planning a recent trip to Spain, I knew I had two factors to keep in mind, the Spanish heat, and that I didn’t have the luxury of wasting precious holiday time running back to the hotel to change for the evening.

I armed myself with a few key summer dresses that would transition from day to evening effortlessly but at the same time I can stay cool & comfy as much as possible.

The discovery of outfits made from fabric blends that are perfect for the summer heat and at the same time does not dent your pocket is the inspiration behind this blog.

Of course, Linen as most of you may agree is the first choice of summer clothing if you don’t mind the creases and the price tag!

Made from the fibers of the Flax plant it is not elastic & therefore is difficult to weave without breaking threads which explains why the creases . However, the finished product feels smooth and cool to touch.

My point here is, we need not break the bank buying linen clothing for summer or all year round, if you live in tropical climes like I do.

One of the outfits I had packed for my holiday to Spain was a Linen +Rayon blend summer dress which I got at an unbelievably low price. I chose to wear this dress on the day we spent walking around and exploring a park in Barcelona.

Up until now, I didn’t know much about Rayon as a fabric and to be honest I just relied on the fact that its 55% linen can help me stay cool and comfy at least 50% of the time spent in the mid-day sun.

Now Rayon is made from cellulose, which is chemically converted into a soluble compound so, that makes it neither 100 % natural nor synthetic.

But the thing about rayon is its a very versatile fibre and has the same comfort properties as natural fibers. It can imitate the feel and texture of silk, wool, cotton & linen!

Rayon is also highly absorbent but it does not trap body heat making it ideal for use in hot and humid climates!

Blended fabrics can offer the best of both worlds by combining fibers to accentuate their strengths and downplay their weakness.

Going back to my day at the park, we were there from noon to about three in the afternoon but I stayed cool as a cucumber in my linen blend dress!

It was a eureka moment for me asI realized that I was as comfortable in this dress as I would be in a pure linen outfit and at half the cost.! not to mention that my dress did not crease as much either.

Excited by this discovery, I wanted to share with you that effortless and affordable style does not always come with a huge price tag, and the next time you plan your summer vacation you can look out for, and pack such outfits to stay comfortable and yet be stylish!
